Heston Times Summer 2022

1 DEPUTY HEADTEACHER’S MESSAGE Welcome to Heston Community School’s Summer edition of the Heston Times. Written by our students, it reminds us of the many amazing things they have experienced and achieved and the improvements that are taking place throughout the year. It is often said that people are the most important component of any organisation. This publication highlights some of the Hestonians that make this School so special. Whether we are uncovering the hidden sporting talents of a staff member who was ranked in the top 10 players from a whole continent, or discovering the wonder and joy that comes from a student discovering the best book they have ever read; there is something for everyone. Every day we are reminded that learning is about trying new things. I hope that as many more of you read these examples of student experiences, you will be inspired to try even more and then share with others. It is great to see that we have such a wide range of opportunities and a student body that is willing to give their best. Everything from success in national competitions, to re-discovering the benefits of the local library to the DoE group being chased across a field by cows [or was it bulls!] have provided opportunities for our students to be successful. The stories show the many and different ways that we can demonstrate the Hestonian Values. I will have completed thirty-five years of teaching at Heston Community School at the end of this year. The Heston Times is helping to create a record of great memories of something I have always known—this a wonderful place full of exceptionally talented people. The challenge for us all, is to keep on trying new experiences and inspire others to do the same. There is so much going on at Heston in this final term of the year. We have a huge programme of School improvements taking place that we believe will help make Heston even better. The Post 16 Outdoor Area is now complete and will soon have additional seating and its own food servery. The Canteen will be extended allowing more seating to be created. Student toilet refurbishments are continuing. A new mini-bus has been ordered. Additional benching and improvements to the field are underway alongside major refurbishments to classrooms in the Hogarth and Osterley Blocks. By the beginning of the Autumn Term, students will be able to see improvements that stretch across the whole site. We hope that the investment in these facilities will allow students to gain even more from the opportunities available at the School. The Summer Term saw the launch of our … Kind Thoughts ...Kind Words campaign. The twenty purple boards spread across the School try to capture why deliberate acts of ‘Kindness’ are so important for all of us to practice. In every day there are 1,440 minutes. That means we have 1,440 daily opportunities to make a positive impact. How you treat people is who you are! Please support making Heston a better place. Commit to performing at least one random act of kindness every day. Enjoy the summer holidays.
