Journalist & poet's workshop
Racism and feminism discussed with Siana Bangura
On Thursday 19th March, Siana Bangura came to Heston Community School to work with a group of Year 10 girls. As a journalist and spoken word poet, she had a refreshing and informed insight into the issues we face in society today; discussions ranged from Charlie Hebdo to American racism to intersectional feminism.
One of the most powerful parts of the workshop was when Siana broke down our internal biases on gender stereotypes. Unlearning our biases was the beginning to a path of fighting a bigger battle. She was poignant, insightful and the girls were incredibly inspired to believe that the feminist movement can create better opportunities for us all.
