Word of the Week - Surmount
Surmount is the WOTW w/c 8th February
In our efforts to continue to develop students’ literacy we have launched a ‘Word of the Week’ programme.
The ‘Word of the Week’ will be displayed in classrooms and around the school and will be used throughout lessons in order to ensure students are developing their vocabulary. Literacy achievement points can now be awarded to students for the correct usage of these words in all lessons.
The ‘Word of the Week’ for the week commencing 8th February is: Surmount.
Surmount:
1. To overcome a difficulty or obstacle.
Example: All obstacles to completing the improvements to the coursework were surmounted.
2. To stand of be placed on top of.
Example:
The building was surmounted by an ornate chimney.
Synonyms: Overcome, beat, dominate.
Antonyms: Forfeit, resign.
