Our ambitious and inclusive curriculum is designed to empower our students to become life-long learners and successful global citizens.

Through a well-sequenced curriculum, we intend to embed knowledge and skills that challenge all learners. The Music curriculum is sequenced to ensure students develop their musical ability in relation to performance, composition, listening and musical theory; preparing them for KS5 musical study and beyond. 

Subject specific vocabulary is used in every lesson. Students are encouraged to use key musical words to explain, describe and compare different music genres and elements such as orchestra and modern instruments.

Our Music curriculum celebrates diversity and develops cultural capital by exposing students to a range of musical genres, from all over the world, for example:

• Western Classical Music to develop a solid knowledge of the basics of harmony and history of music also in order to learn elements of the orchestra and its role
• Traditional Indian and Music from the World in order to understand how every culture contributes to the development of music in all its aspects
• Musical Theatre to understand different aspects and fusion between musical genres in a theatre context, which also involves orchestra and singing elements.

To raise aspirations and allow our students to make informed decisions about their future, we provide subject specific careers education. Students learn about the wide range of jobs linked to music such as sound engineer, sound designer, producer, label and tour management, performer (classical or studio) and composer, with links to the Film and Games industry. In addition, students are explicitly made aware of the transferable skills they are learning in the subject that can be applied to many careers such as creativity, team work, listening and resilience.

Our Curriculum Maps outline our curriculum design and the development of knowledge and skills from Years 7-9. The curriculum is adapted to support and challenge students with different starting points, whilst remaining ambitious for all.
