After an in-school workshop on Thursday 8th February with poet Rachel Long, A Level English Literature students were invited to Eton College on Thursday 3rd May for a final celebration of the Orwell Youth Prize. Speakers included Baroness Helena Kennedy, Lord Adonis, poet Anthony Anaxagorou, writer Stephen Armstrong and the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, Farrah Storr. Students then worked
Ms Kelly Norrington from Uptree Ltd, an organisation that matches up students with employers outlined the opportunities currently available to students in a variety of fields both in London and further afield.
Students were delighted to meet Dr Alex Mehta, founder of the legal compliance consultancy Judicium PLC this week. Heston has launched its Oxbridge Pathways Club, which provides opportunities for building confidence, independence and providing a broad range of learning opportunities outside of the classroom for our most able students.
To celebrate British Science Week 2018 the Science Department at Heston put on a series of fun demonstrations on Thursday 15th March. Students took part in spectacular demonstrations ranging from flaming rockets, setting their teachers hands on fire, flying small drones and even vacuum packing!
Students interested in Medical careers were delighted to meet Dr Hardeep Sahota, a past student of the School, who completed his A Level education in 2001, before going on to read Medicine at the University of Bristol. He was able to provide our students with guidance on how to succeed academically, both at school and at university; explain the rigorous application process for Medicine and the importance of using every opportunity provided by the School, to develop transferable skills. He has generously offered to provide additional support to students applying for Medicine.
Along with schools across the world, students and staff at Heston Community School celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. In the English Department, we dressed as characters from popular books and used this as a platform to spark an interest in different genres.

Ten Year 10 students from Heston Community School took part in a culinary workshop at the award winning Brilliant restaurant in Southall.
The Senior Maths Challenge is run by the UK Mathematics Trust and is supported by the institute and Faculty of Actuaries. It aims to stimulate mathematical problem solving in Years 12 and 13.
On the 31st of October, 40 students had some spooky fun in our Halloween Event held at the LRC, with music and a plush display of scary refreshments, which were all carefully selected by Mrs Matthews.
Our students have produced an outstanding set of examination results, with 74% of the cohort gaining 5+ Standard GCSE passes including English and Mathematics.
Celebration Evening 2017 took place in the School Hall on Tuesday, 11 July at 19:00. Despite the heavy rain, the turnout was excellent and, judging by the comments below, thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
Mr O’Hagan proved to be an entertaining host, ably assisted by Mr Sam Saib whose efficiency ensured all prize-winners received the correct certificates. The Heston dancers won the hearts of the audience with their enthusiasm and energy.
It was, however, the account of our guest speaker, ex-student, Dr Arsalan Wafi, that had the greatest impact. From the opening sentence, “I was born in Kabul”, parents and students were enthralled by the account of his journey: finishing A Levels at Heston, going to Cambridge to read Medicine and, now, studying to become a surgeon.
