BTEC LEVEL 3 BUSINESS
Our curriculum intent is to have an ambitious and inclusive curriculum, that empowers our students to become life-long learners and successful global citizens.
As part of the BTEC Level 3 Technical Award programme of study, students investigate a range of business topics. Students have to complete mandatory units, which include business finance, how businesses market themselves, the underlying principles of motivating staff, why businesses choose to expand abroad and the way in which businesses organise themselves. In addition to this, they also learn about the recruitment and training of staff. Through a well-sequenced curriculum, we intend to embed knowledge and skills that challenge all learners.
Our curriculum is designed to cultivate a rich subject specific vocabulary, enabling our students to think and write like a Business Professional and students are taught disciplinary literacy in an explicit and direct manner.
Students develop their knowledge of key themes such as globalisation, business strategy and marketing to help aid their understanding of the world today, as part of our Enriched and Society - centred curriculum. The real world nature of the subject provides regular opportunities to promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development which are an integral part of our day-to-day work, whether in discussing the ethics in globalisation, the motivation and leadership theory involved in the treatment of workers or the role of technology in business interaction. We support students in developing an analytical approach getting them to reach their own interpretations about information presented, so they can make strategical decisions.
To raise aspirations and allow our students to make informed decisions about their future, we provide subject specific careers education. In addition, students will practice their interviewing techniques to develop their communication skills and improve their understanding of work skills that are often valued by employers. Many of our students have studied degrees in Business at prestigious Universities or gained highly - competitive apprenticeship placements.
Our Curriculum Maps outline our curriculum design and the development of knowledge and skills in Years 12 and 13. The curriculum is adapted to support and challenge students with different starting points, whilst remaining ambitious for all. Students are examined on the Edexcel Specification in BTEC Level 3 Business.
