Our ambitious and inclusive curriculum is designed to empower our students to become life-long learners and successful global citizens.

Through a well-sequenced curriculum, we intend to embed knowledge and skills that challenge all learners. The Geography curriculum is designed around geographical themes, such as risk and sustainability, which are woven into each topic studies at all key stages. These themes such as risk and sustainability, have been selected at they are enriching and relevant to the students.  The curriculum enables students to progress from studying concrete examples to theoretical understanding; to being able to move beyond their own experiences; and to being able to draw conclusions on a range of scales – local regional, national and international. Geographical skills are embedded into each key stage helping to develop an enquiry approach to learning, the cartographic and numeracy skills increase in challenge as students’ progress through the year groups.

Our curriculum is designed to cultivate a rich vocabulary, enabling our students to think and write like a Geographer and students are taught disciplinary literacy in an explicit and direct manner.

We enrich our students learning, beyond the National Curriculum, by exposing them to a broad range of opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-life contexts. Given the dynamic and ever-changing nature of the content within this discipline, the subject provides a critical lens through which to explore wide variety of geographical issues in the media.

As part of our Society -centred curriculum, it is our intention that in studying Geography students become, globally and locally aware, inquisitive thinkers, compassionate global citizens equipped with 21^st century skills and responsible and sustainable planet inhabitants.  Students learn about issues such as global warming, over population, and gender inequality so that they will be better equipped to engage in meaningful conversations about these controversial issues. 

To raise aspirations and allow our students to make informed decisions about their future, we provide subject specific careers education. Students learn about educational and skill requirements for professions such as Town Planners, Environmental Scientists, Cartographers and Geologists. 

Our Curriculum Maps outline our curriculum design and the development of knowledge and skills from Years 7-11. The curriculum is adapted to support and challenge students with different starting points, whilst remaining ambitious for all. Students are examined on the AQA Specification in GCSE Geography.
