Business
Our ambitious and inclusive curriculum is designed to empower our students to become life-long learners and successful global citizens.
Through a well-sequenced Key Stage 4 curriculum, we intend to embed knowledge and skills that challenge all learners. Students learn how businesses are set up, operate and grow including topics such as structure of business, production, marketing, finance and personnel. The curriculum develops disciplinary technical, planning and analytical skills, and numeracy skills.
Our curriculum is designed to cultivate a rich business vocabulary, enabling our students to think and write like a business professional. Students are taught subject specialist and disciplinary language in an explicit and direct manner.
The real world nature of the subject provides regular opportunities to promote spiritual, moral, social and cultural development which are an integral part of our day-to-day work, whether in discussing the ethics in globalisation, the motivation and leadership theory involved in the treatment of workers or the role of technology in business interaction.
To raise aspirations and allow our students to make informed decisions about their future, we provide subject specific careers education. Real-life applications of business and career links are woven into our curriculums. We give our students the opportunity to learn about a range of inspirational entrepreneurs, through our planned curriculum and enrichment events. Speakers are often invited to address students about key topics and give detailing about how their career choices led them to their role.
Our Curriculum Maps outline our curriculum design and the development of knowledge and skills from Years 10 -11. The curriculum is adapted to support and challenge students with different starting points, whilst remaining ambitious for all. Students are examined on the Edexcel Specification in GCSE Business.
